About the Role

London Bridge Healthcare Trust is seeking compassionate and skilled Healthcare Assistants to join its inpatient wards, day procedure units, and community outreach teams across South London. As an HCA, you will work under the supervision of registered nurses and allied health professionals to deliver fundamental aspects of patient care including personal hygiene assistance, nutrition support, vital signs monitoring, mobility assistance, and patient companionship. This is a hands-on, people-centred role that requires emotional resilience, physical stamina, and a genuine commitment to improving patient outcomes and experience at every interaction.

Your Responsibilities

  • Deliver personal care support to patients including bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, continence care, and pressure ulcer prevention positioning.
  • Accurately record and report patient vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and fluid balance.
  • Assist patients with meals including positioning, feeding support for those who require assistance, and monitoring nutritional intake.
  • Help patients move safely within the ward environment using appropriate manual handling techniques, equipment, and transfer aids.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment by following infection prevention and control protocols at all times.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to anxious, confused, or distressed patients and their visiting family members.
  • Collect and label clinical specimens accurately and transport to the laboratory within the required timeframe.
  • Document all care provided in the patient’s electronic care record (EPR) accurately and within clinical shift timescales.
  • Support ward nurses with clinical tasks such as wound care assistance, catheter care, and medication administration observations.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 3 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including English and Maths, or equivalent Level 2 qualification.
  • Healthcare diploma, NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, or Care Certificate is highly preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months of paid or voluntary experience in a care, hospital, or community health setting.
  • Genuine empathy for patients from diverse backgrounds with exceptional communication and listening skills.
  • Understanding of basic infection control procedures, manual handling principles, and patient dignity standards.
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure in a busy clinical environment with fluctuating workloads.
  • Right to Work in the United Kingdom — NHS trusts are registered Skilled Worker visa sponsors for eligible candidates.
  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is mandatory prior to employment commencement.
